She is a Professor of Vilnius State University, Department of Classical Studies.
1981: graduated from the University of St.Petersburg, Russia.
1985: set up the Department of Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies ( the first in Russia) and has been the Head of the Department until 2020. Her habilitation thesis has been dedicated to Pontic Dialect.
1985-1990: Extensive research in the Field Linguistics. Field Studies of the Gypsy Language (Region of St. Petersburg). Has also organised a number of research expeditions to the regions inhabited by Greek communities. Has developed a unique method of language teaching through the examples of etalon literary texts.
2000-2003: Visiting professor in Cyprus University; Queen Mary and Westfield College ( London); Ecole Normale (Paris);Panteion ( Greece); Ca Foscari ( Venice) and others.

Awards: Παράσημα του Ταξιάρχη του Τάγματος του Φοίνικος της Ελληνικής Δημοκρατίας ( the Order of Phoenix) ( 2008), Doctor Honoris Causa, University of Komotini, Cultural Ambassador of Greece ( Award of the Mayor of Athens).
Main fields of research interests: socio- and ethnolinguistics, Greek literature, Greek dialectology, language contacts, comparative studies (history of literature, semiotics), literary standard
